A favorite tea of mine occasionally gifts me with this reminder. I like to reflect on this wisdom as the bag seeps in my mug.
“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.” ~Lao Tzu
I am prone to hustle. I want to go and do. I want to accomplish big things. But lately, I’ll settle for almost any accomplishment, even if it’s a load of laundry that’s successfully put away or some clothes and toys I manage to pick up off my son’s bedroom floor.
I love clearing things off my task list. I’m happy when I’m doing all the things. But more than not, life has other plans. Kids don’t nap. Other things or someone else’s needs get in the way.
Can you relate?
Slowing down is hard. Trusting the process is harder. But motherhood, and frankly, the knowledge that Spring is around the corner show me the importance. Big and beautiful things happen gradually over time. And not just that, we miss little and important parts of the journey when we fail to slow down. Our priorities can get mixed. Sometimes, we wrongly believe that being busy and moving fast somehow make us or our busyness important.
So this afternoon, I’m taking a breath. Things don’t have to go the way I choose. The baby doesn’t have to nap when I want him too. The task list can wait until tomorrow.
If nature can create beauty over time with small consistent steps, I have faith that you and I can accomplish big things over time too. 💕
